A great old Moroccan Berber rug from the Middle Atlas Mountains, featuring a very unusual design, a unique and refined interpretation of the classic diamond grid. Though it resembles the work of the famed Beni Ouarain, it was probably woven by the Marmoucha, a neighboring tribe. It's dense weave, excellent wool quality, wonderful patina all indicate great age. A very impressive and genuinely old example of Berber art.
Condition & Remarks
Very well preserved, sturdy and clean. Slight color bleed along the edges, due to red dye on the reverse, does not detract - see close-up pictures.
