Iran, Afshar Tribes: Late 19th Century
Flat-weave (kilim), mixed brocading techniques: wool
A superb tribal weaving by Afshars of Southern Iran, created using several distinct techniques of brocading. Weavings like this were prestigious objects of status within the tribe, commissioned by or created for higher ranking members. They were not intended as everyday floor covers, but used on special occasions.

(We recommend this as a wall hanging or similar display purpose, as it is an amazing example of tribal art that should be preserved.)
